Inertial Measurement Units’ Reliability for Measuring Knee Joint Angle during Road Cycling

نویسندگان

چکیده

We explore the reliability of joint angles in road cycling obtained using inertial measurement units. The considered method relies on 3D accelerometer and gyroscope measurements from two such units, appropriately attached to adjacent body parts, measuring angle connecting joint. investigate effects applying a simple drift compensation technique an error-state Kalman filter. consider knee particular, conduct trials, 5 20 minute one, for seven subjects, closed, supervised laboratory environment use optical motion tracking system as reference. As expected adaptive solution, filter gives more stable results. root mean square errors per pedalling cycle are below 3.2°, both trials all implying that units not only reliable short measurements, is usually assumed, but can be reliably used longer well. Considering accuracy results, presented reasonably extended open, unsupervised environments other angles. Implementing supports development cheaper efficient monitoring equipment, opposed expensive systems. Consequently, cyclists have affordable way position tracking, leading better bicycle fitting, avoidance prevention certain injuries

Reliability of Body Landmarks Analyzer for Measuring the Quadriceps Angle

Genovarum and Genovalgum are the most common postural deformities of the knee joint. A quadriceps angle is used to measure these anomalies. Methods of measuring this angle are divided into two categories: invasive and non-invasive. The purpose of the present research was to study the inter/intra rater reliability of the non-invasive Body Landmarks Analyzer method for measuring of the quadriceps...

The effects of joint angle and reliability on knee proprioception.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and effects of knee angle on the detection and subsequent response to passive knee movement. METHODS Twenty college-aged male and 20 female volunteers were evaluated for proprioception by a newly developed perturbation test. Subjects were in a prone position on an isokinetic chair with their right lower leg attached to a freely ...

Knee joint angle measurement using accelerometry based system

Today human gait analysis systems are mainly laboratory optics based systems. Sometimes these devices could restric patients’ natural movements because of their construction and/or weight. Therefore [1, 2, 5] measurement results may be completed by some errors. Secondly, there are no fully-compact systems commercially available , which could provide mesurement of selected gait parameters heving...

3D joint rotation measurement using MEMs inertial sensors: Application to the knee joint

This study investigated a functional calibration method to define the Cartesian bone-embedded anatomical frame necessary to calculate 3D joint angles. This method was combined with an inertial ambulatory system and applied to the measurement of 3D knee joint angles during gait. This combination was compared to a magnetic tracker system associated with a functional and postural calibration metho...
